We're really all just crazy...

It's probably a super strange choice that my first blog post features a Doberman momma in the whelping box checking over her brand new baby. I've avoided writing my first post for ages, despite Wix telling me I really should write one. I'm not a writer, I'm a breeder, I'm a dog trainer, I'm a mom, I'm a wife, I'm a crafter. I'm not a writer. Yet here I am, still not certain what to write, so I scrolled through pictures on my phone for some inspiration, something to share that may be helpful as you consider all the wonderful breeders out there for your next puppy. I'm not a Doberman breeder, but I've helped whelp a Dobe litter, I've studied their standard (not nearly as much as the Bulldog but pretty well) and I've helped evaluate several litters. I've learned about how breeders raise and care for their puppies and how they train them as they grow. It has taught me so many things about my own breed, has made me a more informed and educated breeder and trainer, and has grown my friend and breeder support group immensely!
I have a little insider info for you: we're all a little crazy. We may not admit it often, but the breeders I know and have learned along side...we're not your average dog person. We spend our weekends at dog shows, hunt tests, or at seminars learning about raising puppies, health testing, and lots of canine reproduction topics that would make your grandmother clutch her pearls--unless she was a breeder herself. Seriously, when we go out for dinner with our breeder friends that night after the seminar, we mayyyy get kicked out of Applebee's because we're grossing the other patrons out with our strange conversation. We don't think about why we're getting strange looks for talking about our momma dogs--using the correct veterinary term for our unspayed female canines, because it's normal lingo to us. We aren't TRYING to ruin anyone's dinner, we just are on a bit different wave length.
I'd like to think that's what you want though. You may not know it, but you do. If you've chosen a breed you love, you chose it for it's traits--physical, temperament, size, energy level and more. You feel these are a fit for you, and you find the idiosyncrasies endearing in some way. But those traits don't come by accident. They're carefully chosen, selected for, evaluated by us crazy breeders that find them even more important that you! Not everyone understands (or appreciates) why we spend the time and money we do living and breathing our chosen breed, but it's in our blood. We're a little bit crazy honestly. But we do it for the dogs and we do it to provide you with wonderful, predictable, stable and healthy dogs.
